The IT guy at my office is a bit dorky (he has some of his Star Trek stuff up on the walls, I bet he owns a suit) but he's a nice guy. I've spoken with him whenever I've seen him, just shot the breeze. I like the guy, but I get the feeling that some people in the office aren't that nice because he's a bit nerdy.

I started having trouble with my machine so I gave him a ring, he came over and dragged off my workstation. After looking it over he decided it was time to reimage it. During the image he just happened to use the older image that the company has, which just happens to allow me to have local admin rights. He just happened to install office 2003 (I can't stand 2007). And he just happened to bring buy some girl scout cookies to share which he keeps stashed in a little fridge under his desk.

It pays to be nice to your IT guy. This made my day, which is kind of sad but I've been so ticked off about not having local admin rights.

Yes, yes it does. As someone who provides IT support, it's nice when you get someone cooperative and who has the right attitude. So many people have the wrong outlook... as if it's us against them. In users' defense, some IT personnel have that outlook as well though and treat users as if they're dumb when it's really just ignorance. Ignorance is fine in this situation because it's not their job to understand everything related to IT.

I disable all that spywear shit thats on our computers. Luckily my IT guy is retarded enough to leave me the option to disable.

Im a 1099 employee, so I dont really have any rules anyway....but knowing how bored IT guys can get, I dont need him looking at my comp usage.

Girl Scout cookies in the US fail badly compared to New Zealand girl scout cookies. I've tried both. Kiwi girl scout cookies are the best cookies to ever be made.

same here.

We were taken over by another company a little while back. before that, passwords did not expire, so everyone had the same password for years. with the new company, they make you change it every 90 days. during the transition, this one guy was missed and his password was never set to expire. I set it so that it does on his next log in.

you'd have thought I'd burned down his house, banged his wife, and killed his dog when he found out he had to change it.

It pays to be nice to everyone. As an IT guy, I have learned that if you are nice to people, they in turn will be nice to you for the most part. There will always be sticks in the mud or crabby people. The key is to kill them with kindness. Thats my motto. :)

hah, same reaction we had when we forced all desktops to lock after 10 minutes of inactivity and didn't allow them to change their screensaver from the default logon.scr

Suuurrrreee.....

It's not against the rules to use the old image if he can justify it. He had some reasoning to put down on the sheet to use to older image (something about the software that was included or something like that, I didn't catch that). Plenty of people on my floor still have local admin rights, it's just when they get a new computer they lose it. So if you happen to have it on your system you can keep it.

Most of the guys in engineering have it on their systems, I just got handed a machine when I came in and it was set up differently.
