It is an offence in the UK to drive whilst using a cell phone as you are not in proper control of the vehicle. I totally agree with it being an offence!

People have to take a eye exam when getting their license and if they can't pass the test without their glass's the law says they must wear them when they drive.

I think they should have a distraction test as part of getting your license.

If you want to drive and talk at the same time, you should have to take the DRIVING test while gabbing on the phone. Flunk the test and if you are pulled over with a cell phone with-in your reach it's an automatic ticket!!

Pass the test and you get a code on your license that say's you are competent.

Sound like a good idea to anyone else??
Hell yeah, distraction test sounds good to me. mobile drivers pisses me of too, even worse is if they trie to drive fast with a mobil in one hand in city traffic. damn those guys are plain dangerous.

Another reason I think it should be illegal to talk and drive.

Scenario. You just got fired from your job, lost your house and you are on your way to see your significant other. You call her up and she dumps you on the spot. Right then a 18 wheeler comes around the corner. Now I know there are people out there that given that situation would probably drive straight into the front of that truck!

I don't think you should EVER get bad news while driving a several ton vehicle!

It's funny how most people think they drive fine while yapping on a phone and yet it's so obvious when you're the guy behind them. They don't seem to realize how they constantly change speeds, correct in corners (and straights
rolleye.gif
) etc. They may stay between the lines, but only barely.

Simple, just get a prescription windshield!

Well, won't be long until talking on a cell phone will be illegal in all states. Well, unless you're using a hands-free phone. I do talk on the phone while driving but always have the phone in my right hand when I don't have the hands-free hooked up. This allows me to keep my left hand on the steering wheel (which is how I drive 99% of the time anyway) and I still reach my turn signals so I can alert others to my lane-changes and merging.

And, I have no problem dropping the phone in mid-sentence if I get into serious traffic. Have done that many a time. Or just hang up on them and drop it and focus on driving.

eventually it will be illegally but not any time soon.

HEY! I resemble..I mean resent that remark!

;)

Seriously, I have to agree that it is annoying not to mention dangerous. If you must have a conversation on your cell phone, please pull off the road! :disgust:

Please lay off Brutuskend, his jokes are pretty good comic relief here at work, and I enjoy them. I personally don't wanna search google for jokes, and having him pick one or two and post them is nice.

Driving and Talking=Dangerous, wonder how long before insurance co's start charging more in premium if you have a cell phone?

WTF is with you people bashing on Brutuskend? He is a better poster than a lot of people here. I and many others find his posts quite entertaining. You don't have to read the jokes if you don't want to, so don't come into his threads with rude comments.

And as for the topic of this thread, I agree. The ticket should be really expensive too.

Thank you! :)

Not bashing Brut, so dont take this the wrong way, but I know how you got 7k posts in a year now :) Its a good idea, Ill start thanking people for every nice thing they say about me...

I'm all for not using them in the car. My wife is always calling me on hers from the car and I hang up on her so she can concentrate on driving!!

Actually, he joined in 2001, so it would be 2 years ;).

I actually think it's a great idea. Lot of incompetent drivers out there need to be retested and they should be tested for 'distractivity' too. Ok, I don't know if that's a word or not but it probably should be heh.

Yah, I was driving home from school today, in the slow lane of the highway preparing to exit (unlike some of my peers, I prefer not to do the five lane swoop into exits) and this silver beamer right next to me starts drifting over . . . I figured it was just driver error and would soon be corrected . . but closer and closer this fvck comes. I realize the prick is changing lanes. Hell, I am not even in his blind spot, I am alongside him, and my car is not small. Itsa goddamed 1991 Sable. My horn has no effect, Im half on the shoulder, so I reach into my loose change and fling a handful out the window onto his hood and windsheild. THAT woke him up. Swerves back into his lane when he realizes it . . I look over swearing and his mouth is moving . . . . and he has one of those goddam mike things coming from his ear. He gets the finger, I get the exit lane. End.

I sure hope I left some dings or scrapes in that bastard's hood. He almost killed me (and my passenger.) I mean, not checking your blindspot is one thing, but I was alongside him. grrr.

note to self, carry loose change when I drive. thanks for the tip lol
(or perhaps a drink with ice cubes in it for less damaging effect)
