It must be monday... the idiot customers are emerging from their holes! [rant]

Ah, monday morning...

All the used parts we keep in the shop are used for testing and servicing computers that come in. We order any parts and cables for customers as needed. Since our focus is on corporate customers and not retail walk-in customers, it's usually not a problem.

This customer did not want to bring his mac computer or monitor in for testing or service, because we would charge him for it. Instead, he wanted us to let him borrow a keyboard and vga cable so he could test and fix his system at home. When we refused, he asked what we would charge for the parts. We told him we don't sell used parts and that they are for the use of the service department. We did offer to sell him a vga cable for $10 with no refund. He stormed out, muttering that it was obvious that we did not want to do business with him. We tried to direct him to compusa or best buy, but he claimed he'd been there already and didn't have the "mac parts" he needed (vga cable?).

We already do enough "charity work" for customers without needing to deal with idiots like this.

Is it friday yet? 😱

Some customers think you owe it to them to give them stuff or help them. Easy for them to forget this is a business, and you are there to make a living.

hmm i got that too a bit, friends wanna borrow this or that to try out, or at compusa, peopled ask for loaner machines. . . computers are not like cars.. . are they?

I especially liked his comments about "doing business." When did loaning parts to anonymous people off the street become a business? Who knows, at one point an idea like that could have meant an ipo on nasdaq! 😉

the line about doing business is the typical cynical threat. the cynical person is sure he is surrounded by other cynical folks, so he blusters in that cynical way. yeah, right, you're really hurting me man. the reason he actually said what he did was because he knew he was making an unacceptable request so he had to make a threat.
