We hardly get an auto vs bear on the highway. We've had two in the last 12 days.
Both were right at 400#.

I'm the stealth poster.

j/k

I used to post very rarely in the other forums such as video and networking. Now I seem to spend all my time in OT and my post count is going up faster than ever before 😉

Really? (I can't tell if you're serious or not! 😛 ) I see it all the time.

Because of the long legs, a moose or elk will go through the windshield and injur or kill people more often than shorter animals. But I don't want to hit either.

I wonder what would do more damage to a car, a black bear or an moose/elk ?

Do you know how big moose are? We have one that "looks" over our 6' high chain link fence. It's head is on our side with the bottom part of the neck barely touching the top of the fence. This cow must go 1500 lbs or more. Compared to a measly 400# bear what do you think?

The elk around here aren't as large but an avg bull will go maybe 800# or so.

Moose will definitely do more damage, way, waaaaaay bigger. Chop them legs off and have them come through the windshield and there is a good change you're done!

even the small deer we have around here will do significant damage to a car. my wife thinks i was joking when I told her i was going to get a brush guard for her explorer.

Both will pretty much total the car, but the moose is far more likely to kill you. All of its mass is up high, so you end up taking out the legs and it comes through the windshield. The bear would end up hitting the parts of the car designed to take an impact.
