It might be illegal for kids younger than 18 to play any violent computer games

<< The bill, which passed the Senate last week, would require business owners to prohibit minors from playing so-called "point-and-shoot" video games that depict the killing or injuring of humans.

Under the bill, owners of establishments with "point-and-shoot" games would be responsible for assuring that only those 18 and older play the games - by such means as checking identification and segregating the machines. Only the business owners - and not the children playing the games - would be penalized for violating the law, with fines of up to $1,000.

"It is so much like a real gun that kids can't differentiate a real gun from a fake gun," said Rep. Michael P. Lawlor, D-East Haven. "Even though they are toys, the fact that they are available is a dangerous thing."

well, some arcades don't even accept minors into their establishments.

and some arcades do have rules as such...

18 is a bit old, maybe 14 or 16. but eh.

this bill does not appear to include buying such games though...

Yes, a virtual gun in some game closely resembles a real gun and is therefore just as dangerous as a real gun...

Wake up, please.

BTW wouldn't it be much more logical to start with real guns first?

its reasonable. if stupid kids cant tell the difference between a cartoon and reality what make syou think they can with a realistic looking poitn and shoot? remember those kids who threw a bowling ball off a bridge because beavis and butthead did it? fools. same goes for those stupid kids who cant read at the age of 14 and try to light themselves on fire or jump in front of cars when they were explicitly told not to even try and send tapes into "Jackass" again....fools. if kids werent so stupid today then maybe they wouldnt have any reason to set an age limit, but im all for it. especially those very well done realistic point and shoot games.

snakesnfrogs,
i am in no way judging your abilities as a parent but....i think everyone agrees that there afre more than a fair share of irresponsible and uninterested parents that dont even take the time to notice what thier kids are watching on tv let alone what games they play.

If kids can't tell this difference, they have serious problems...

<< BTW wouldn't it be much more logical to start with real guns first? >>

I guess the government is unwilling to deal with the real issue at hand and are trying to dodge around it instead.

yea cause of course when i play video games and kill someone i get charged with murder?

WTF. The youth of America are not all idiots. If you want to ban 10 year olds fine but 17?? C'mon. We know the difference between right and wrong, we know what is reality and what is just a game. This is such BS. Seriously. They think that you play video games and you want to go shoot up a school or something. If your going to go kill 12 of your classmates, there are problems at home there are problems with the child in general and videogames or no videogames they still have problems

UGH

Can't blame the senate though.. They have to come out with new laws or else they won't have a job to do.
