It looks like Pakistan is in more trouble than Afghanistan

<< "I think a general is going to kill him and get rid of him. It's a matter of time." >>

Him being Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf

You have no idea how much that would throw things off right now. Musharraf is being the US's bitch right now, whatever the US asks Musharraf agrees to - within reason, of course. The Taliban stretches all the way into Pakistan both economically and literally. There's many Taliban supporters in Pakistan who would love to see the US unable to attack their fellow countrymen in Afghanistan.
The only way President Musharraf is allowing US support is because of the sanctions the US/UN put on them for testing Nukes without approval...maybe helping the US would allow some of those sanctions to be lifted.

Damn, this could really suck. We'd be even more limited in ways to attack Afghan. if Pakistan is out of the picture.

Quotable quotes from the article:

"To invite non-Muslim forces to set foot on Muslim land is a complete crime," he said. [He being Sheikh Omar Bakri Mohammed, the cleric]

"Gen Musharraf has now become an apostate and a security problem. Under Islamic law, his wife is no longer allowed to sleep with him and his life has no sanctity," declared the cleric.

"If they [the Pakistanis] believe Musharraf is a traitor, they should put him on trial and punish him as defined by Islam," he declared.

Man, I don't know where these people get these twisted Islamic laws, but if there is a God, he surely hates these people. They seem to be able to justify killing anyone, anytime they please.

"Allah has warned us against this crime, saying, 'The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His apostle and strive to make mischief in the land is only this: that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement'."

:Q

India has already pledged their support (including their army). We should really just line up our army along the India Pakistan border and wipe out both Pakistan and Arghanistan. So it will take 2 weeks instead of just one. No big deal.

Great, now some Islamic retard in England is trying to start a holy war against the west. What an idiot. If pakistan doesn't help the US, they're screwed. Best case scenario they get hit with trade sanctions, they go bankrupt and chaos breaks out. Worst case the US goes to war against them for supporting Bin Laden, the Taliban, and terrorists throughout the world.

If we offer to ease some of the sanctions we have against Pakistan in exchange for the use of their land, it could be a win win situation. It won't be if this "cleric" is taken seriously.

I always pictured clerics as quiet peaceful people interested in teaching God's will. Apparently a lot of them are violent bloodthirsty politicians in robes.

I know one thing, that so called cleric in London should be arrested for conspiracy to commit murder.

Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq have ALL the same mind set. In my perfect world, the US would get rid of EVERY living thing in those coutries and give the land to Israel. Now there would be peace in the Middle East.

WTF is up with some people having a boner for Israel?

heard the same thing on BBC (not sure but I think it's BBC).

And this is news to you?

Most religion is simply another form of power... Sadly, most people are too narrow minded to see this...

And if you think it is only Islam that this is the case, you're sadly mistaken...

so what happens if there is some sort of coup in Pakistan......
I'm sure the Taleban would love to get it hands on some on their nukes

The worrying thing is, those crazy MFs would use them

The Taliban are toast. They will be an inkspot in history. They have only been in power for 5 years. They are propped up by Osama. Osama's assets will be(If not already) frozen, therefor he has nothingto offer but misery.

Pakistan has 2 mil taliban refugees in the country. They wantto wage a coup, let them try. Once Americans are on Pakistan soil, anyone who threatens the existing government We have an agreement with will be taken out.

Here is a clue. These ragheads start throwing stones at our troops and we will send them to Allah straight away. We will make an example of these barbarians.

Most christian groups dont declare a man 'fair game for murder' over such a political issue. They've sentenced this man to death for attempting for negotiate with the international community. I mean Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson are scum, but they haven't been urging all Christians to kill all non-Christians.

I think some of these Islamic leaders are itching for a 'crusade'. They keep trying to create a religious war.

There's no doubt in my mind that the Taliban would use the bomb if they only could. In their minds, it's justified because westerners are infidels.

I wonder how many people here have actually read what it's like for the people living there. Especially the boys who grow up in the Islamic schools which only teach Islam and Jihad. They are poor and ignorant, basically brainwashed. Kept away from their families and not allowed any contact with females. I feel so bad for them. They are basically like "Hitler's Youth" in that they have no idea of what they are a part of because they have never known that life could be any other way.

More a war of the haves vs. the have-nots under the guise of a religous war, IMHO.

past pakistani dictators have been ruthless in putting down any and all opposition to their power. why is this one not doing the same to the right wing in pakistan? i can't imagine a person in pakistan saying "... has now become an apostate and a security problem. Under Islamic law, his wife is no longer allowed to sleep with him and his life has no sanctity" about Zia Ul Huk and live. zia used to be the pakistani dictator about a decade or so ago. maybe Musharraf's army buddies are not 100% behind him. Oh yeah, another thing about Musharraf. unlike past dictators, he is a Mohajir. all the people that moved to pakistan in 1947 from india, when the british created pakistan are called mohajirs by the pakistanis. they are considered inferior by the other pakistanis and are not given equal social status. so maybe this dictator doesn't have the poweful pakistani landlords behind him.
