we're closed!

(letting the phone ring 15 times doesn't make me any more likely to pick it up)

edit: 20 times

I would be willing to make a rather substantial bet that a lot of these calls are just to ask what time they close tonight. :p

sometimes when i call a supplier/ tech support and it rings 10 times, ill put it on speaker and do other work just to see how long it will ring. makes me giggle that on the other end could be a stressed out dood staring at his phone yelling "hang up, already!" at the top of his lungs.

It's the day before Thanksgiving, that means you're still working. Go pick up that phone, and bring me some coffee.

When I worked retail (blessedly, it was only for a short time), I got tons of calls just wanting to know when we were closing. I quickly learned to give them an answer that was 30 minutes earlier than actual closing time.

Before I did that, I would have people who called show up at 1 minute before closing time with the intent of doing some leisurely shopping and if I didn't let them in they went ballistic... "I CALLED AND YOU SAID YOU CLOSED AT 9:30! IT'S NOT 9:30 YET SO LET ME IN! I WILL HAVE YOU FIRED!"

The worst is when people attempt to do their entire holiday shopping 20 minutes before closing on Christmas Eve and can't understand why you don't have.. well.. much of anything in stock.

Upper management sent us an email today around 11:15 or so that if operating conditions would allow it, we could leave at noon. I rolled about 1pm because i finished up a couple of extra things so i didn't have to do them Monday. Friday is a corp holiday, and we also get a half day holiday on Christmas eve.

if you're closed, why are you there?

cleaning up my office, it'd be a mess otherwise.
