I'm sure we've all seen this on email and other websites that have us enter passwords for secure reasons. I was wondering: now that tabbed browsing is all-too-common, should we close out or entire browser or will just closing the specific tab suffice?

Or, is that whole thing just an old wive's tale thing of the past, and today's browsers don't need to be closed at all?

(I'm running Firefox, btw.)

Depends on why they recommend closing the browser. For instance, Mozilla will remember any passwords you give it for HTTP auth (not ones that you enter into forms) for as long as the browser is open, even if you close the tab that you entered the password into.

That error message needs to be amended to read:

"It is recommended you close Internet Explorer once and forever, and switch to FireFox instead for security reasons." :D
