It is really hard to teach my mom how to work with technology.

I am trying to be patient at teaching her how to work with the internet and just with technology in general.

I was furious when I found out she left her email address signed in when she let other people besides the nuclear family use her computer.

Also how she shouldn't enter her personal information on a random tablet/computer. It is insanity.

How do I develop the skills to teach someone with very limited computer knowledge and English skills.

It's his mother, please show a modicum of respect.

Or if the security is what you need then get one that lets you control it from a website and if she keeps herself logged in on public computers then she may be punished at times when people use her account.

There's got to be some kind of plug-in or setting to sign out after idling for a bit. If you know any kind of scripting or programming language, I'd take a crack at a custom app too. Tech in general is designed for a certain minimum of competency and remember these things were not even imaginable back when she grew up. I feel lucky I was part of the last generation to have a childhood before the internet so I got a ground floor view of how it has developed. Soon nobody will even know the sound of dial-up and how excruciating it was for data transfers.

You don't have her computer set to lock after inactivity? Sleep after X minutes. Require password on wake. Then setup a guest account without a password so she isn't tempted to login for random people on her PC.

you remember when you were younger with very limited life skills and used to do some really stupid shit (you, like the rest of us, probably didn't think it was some stupid shit but i'm sure your mom/parents will be able to recall some) and your mom didn't just get crazy furious and beat you to a pulp or just throw her hands up in the air and say "fuck it, i'm done with this kid", but rather kept going and raising you into a proper person who can afford niceties like tablets and other fancy bits of technology?

well, now just return the favor with a smile 🙂

Just realize she is starting from 0

you have to teach her every bit, even the ones that seem self-evident to you.

I put Ubuntu on my mother's computer, and my life got easier. I made her passwords regrettably easy, but for the most part, they're unimportant. I used to log in to update her machine, but she's taken over that duty herself. I pretty much do nothing now.
