It is possible to flash an ATI video card's bios in windows. Can the same be done for Nvidia?

Greetings.

In the past, I have owned primarily ATi video cards. Whenever I wanted to flash their bioses, I could use a program that would flash their bios while still in windows. I was wondering if a similar program exists for Nvidia based cards, more specifically, one that will work with a 7900GT.

Thanks in advance.

Have a question about Nvflash.

I downloaded version 5.5. In the folder, there are two files. cwsdpmi and nvflash. I have assumed that I use nvflash. When I open nvflash, a dos box comes up with all the options and such. It also says push enter to continue or push q to quit. If I push q, it quits. If I push enter, it continues through to some later options. If I continue pushing enter, it will continue to go through these options and then it will close itself. If I re open the program and try to type something, it behaves as if I was pushing enter, and just goes on and on page by page until it gets to the end and closes itself. How do I type the commands to flash the bios of my card? Am I missing something or doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance.

I believe it's nvflash.exe <name of BIOS file>

You'll probably want to back up the old BIOS first, that's nvflash.exe --save <name of file to save BIOS to>

From what people are saying, it sounds like you need to do this from the command prompt (Start->Run->cmd).

hmm I thought nvflash had to be done from a floppy at least that's what it said in the few guides I read. guess I'll look at it again.

Yes, nvflash is a command prompt DOS program.

The help file with nvflash is very helpful, just type nvflash /? at the command prompt.

I get the following error when I try to flash it.

This is the command window:

C:\NVFLASH>nvflash.exe dg.rom
NVIDIA Firmware Update Utility (Version 5.50)

ERROR: PCI BIOS not present
NOTE: This program can only be run under DOS.

C:\NVFLASH>

I have already saved my current bios and edited it with Nibitor. What I am trying to do is now flash the edited bios onto the card.

Any ideas?

you need to create a DOS boot disk (floppy or CD ISO) and put nvflash on it along with the new BIOS.

The purpose of this thread is to flash my video card's bios without leaving the Windows XP platform. I was told that NVflash can do that in this same thread.

I did a little bit of research. Turns out certain versions of nvflash cannot flash bioses in windows, including the newest one. However, nvflash 5.33 works just fine. Thanks everyone for the help.
