People need to stop acting like this is some big news - this is now the way to actually gain votes within the GOP.

People need to stop acting like overthrowing democracy is some big news - this now the way to the promised land!

Ok got it. thanks!

Democracy doesn't work if only half the people practice it, or value it. You don't understand how badly they want an American Caesar.

There are waayyyy too many 'single digit' and 'statistical tie' spreads for me. Dems should be running away with this one by double digits. Walker shouldn't be anywhere near Warnock for example. Booker should be outpacing Paul easily, but it's the other way around.

Blame independents. Not sure which poll she was referring to, but panel on CNN said 10+ for independent on choosing R when it comes to the economy.

Yeah that's a wave election. Roe has already fallen to the wayside in many polls. It's always been and always will be about the economy. Even if it's a global problem, the incumbent party will pay the price.

If the GOP controlled Congress today with the current economic situation...you don't think they would get absolutely blasted at the polls?

Party of the working people is going to shut down the government unit Biden agrees to extend the Trump tax cuts for corporations.
If I am not mistaken, the tax cuts for the rich and corporations where permanent, where as the tax cuts for the poor and middle class where not. So there is nothing for Biden to agree on, as it's already baked in.

Most of the general population, specially those that vote, are uneducated idiots when it comes to such important manners of political policy, cause and effect, and general everyday things. They are easily manipulated and brainwashed, and most are generally lemmings that need to be lead around with no clue about anything. Most don't even understand how our government works, or that there are 3 branches of government with specific responsibilities. If the general population understood why gas prices are high, why inflation is up, why wages haven't kept up with inflation over the past 4 decades before the effects of the pandemic, and a laundry list of other things, the Republican party wouldn't even exist, or at the very least be the same as the Republican party of today. But that isn't the case, these people can lie, and feed them shit sandwiches all day long, and they still stand in line wanting more, believing that they are the answer to the shit we are in.

Corporate R&D credit goes away before the individual tax rates reset IIRC. Corporate rates are indeed permanent. The state and local caps will also be goners. Last I saw extending it all to say 2040 would be like a 5T tab.

Well, the economy and the pocket-book will always be a major factor deciding who wins and who loses. Biden can not control greed, and most of the price gouging of today is simple basic greed. An opportunity to take advantage of.

Biden can not control the Walmart clan. Corporations take advantage of greed simply because they can. And in the board rooms, greed is a positive factor figured into profits. American patriotism in the corporate office? Fuck that.... Nowhere to be found. Hey board members, this is our big opportunity to cash in on the greed, Sally.... run the figures.

Truthfully, it's not fair. None of it.
This back and forth in the election cycle just proves that neither side has the solution. Last time democrats won, this cycle republicans will win, and then come another cycle we will see democrats winning once again. You'd think that intelligent voters would figure this out by now. That.... there is no easy fix. How about instead of radical swings to the left, then back to the right, how about instead just sticking with the current party and seeing what happens down the road?
Biden has done good for the middle class, so lets allow democrats and Biden to continue and see if it plays out.

But that will never happen.
Voters are idiots and will believe there be a quick easy fix to everything. If there were a quick fix, Donald Trump would be president and republicans would still be in control. Remember... remember how they failed? And democrats were voted back in charge? Well think very hard about what you will be returning to if you dump the democrats for the republicans? It won't be pretty. In fact, and as we should have learned by now, it can easily get a lot lot worse.

With allowing republicans back in control, medicare will be severely cut if not eliminated entirely, and for social security expect the very same.
Actually, I believe the big republican plan is to strangle the middle class to such an extent that people will have to work more hours, longer days, and multiple jobs. The worker forced to work even more and much longer simply to afford to live. And those living on social security, medicare, and disability? You're in their sights too. Republicans want to screw up your life too, and force you into poverty. Hey middle class America, under republican rule it will be either poverty, or working at the age of 85. And... working multiple jobs at that.

Yeah middle class America... vote republicans back in. See how that works out for ya.

538 gives democrats about 2-1 odds to keep the senate and Republicans about 3-1 odds to take the house.

Can you explain why you’re right and they are wrong, especially given their strong predictive history and your weak one?

Democrats worry they peaked too soon ahead of midterms
“The inflation outlook improved a little bit as gas prices fell but then got worse again, and momentum this cycle has tracked with these sort of baseline economic indicators,” Winter said.

The issue is the economy. Gas prices doubling for summer is going to turn into a massive boost in "inflation" as that cost works its way through a multi-month supply chain. From parts to make more parts to farm fields to harvest products to sitting in warehouses to sitting on store shelves until the time you pick it up. We will have prices rising well into next spring just based on the gas price last summer. Then it'll reverberate and come back around for some more fun. Irregardless of whatever economy shattering joys the Feds come up with in a vane attempt to stop the wrong sort of inflation.

Feds look at the stats, but I wonder if they understand them. They could protect us from monetary based inflation, but isn't this another issue altogether? The underlying cause of our inflation. How can interest rates prevent the damage caused by gas based inflation? To me it seems we are entirely at the mercy of the price at the pump.

If people want to vote GOP because they think that it will magically make things better, they haven’t been paying attention to the boom / bust cycle IMO, and that seems to be largely driven by GOP policies while in control, and then D’s get stuck with the bill.

GOP spends like a drunken sailor and funnels money to their wealthy benefactors as policy.

Unless 538 and ALL the other pollsters have adjusted their samples pickings of likely voters to be 80% female, 20% male, I think they're gonna misfire bigtime.

Yes and no. Obviously for the entire voting population way off. But like in Kansas, the breakdown of new registered voters greatly skewed female. And we saw the results of that primary.

The more I see, the more I think that Lee(R) is gonna lose re-election to McMullin(I). That's one less R in the counts at least.

The press should probably spend more time telling Americans about the Republican plan to crash into the debt ceiling thereby detonating a global financial crisis unless Democrats agree to all their demands instead of endlessly litigating a person recovering from a stroke's use of captioning. Especially the voters who are thinking about voting R for "the economy". They won't though because they keep making the same mistakes over and over like they did with Trump coverage.

We have no one to blame but ourselves. Personal interest stories and culture war get more clicks than policy, even if the policy is horrifying.

On the economic angle much of the press just reports what Republicans say about inflation without a whole lot of explanation or questions about what Republican economic plans are exactly. Rs just mumble about government spending and the national political corps nods along largely without interrogating what that actually means in concrete terms and it's just another Democrats say vs Republicans say story. The public in turn also starts to nod along.

If McCarthy manages to burn it all down out of incompetent ambition on the back of power that Americans have decided to give him then this country deserves whatever it gets.

Hey, it worked out well for Kwasi Kwarteng and Truss, right???

Of course, the American press will never go there and make that comparison because “‘Mericans are too dumb” or some shit so here we are.

The republicans ranting about crime is what has turned the tide, not the economy. Races that were favorable towards Dems have tightened not because of the economy, but because of their usual push of crime and the border ( in their minds they go perfectly together).

Gotta love that implied racism ...
