There are plenty of consumer cameras below that. A cheaper RED does not help the consumer because there is nothing to play it on and nothing to edit it with that is a "consumer" product. 2K and 3K are higher than anything aimed at the comsumer market to date (RED Player may help). Editing requires special tools and software that can handle 4:4:4 and RAW REDcode. You need Final Cut Pro or some tools and editors that are about the same price as the 1500 camera.

So, this really is a Pro "Pocket" camera. It will start being the camera of choice for productions where you need a shot that can destroy the camera. Ice Road Truckers had a few of those using $3k HDV cameras like the Sony A-1.

Looks pretty bad ass. I may pick one up if it isn't too pricey. The video should be amazing on it!

$3k - But it is not something you can edit with WMM. Best platform is Apple with FCP, but there are workflows for PC editors too such as Avid MediaComposer, CS3...

Yeah I now. I was reading at the red forums. Just playing with the idea :p. I wouldn't do anything serious with it. Maybe just check it out and play with it. I like the idea of the high shooting frame rate on it. That would be good for weightlifting analyst. 24fps is not fast enough!

I'm probably getting a MacBook Pro as my pc is 6yrs out of date :p. P4 2.4 @ 2.699 with 1.5GB of ram...

Also I'm in England and it's like £1 ~ $1.9!
