It is definite to get a G0 Q6600 from NewEgg or are B3's going out?

Just wondering as I'm getting close to pulling the trigger and the Egg has some other stuff I want and would like to combine everything on one order.

No guarantees. Read the review thread on the Q6600 at the Egg. I got a GO from Jersey several weeks ago. Some guys are moaning because they got B3s from Cali last week.

Bottom line, from the results I see here and elsewhere, it doesn't matter that much. Some do great with B3 and some do poorly with GO. OC is a game of luck and skill.

I agree with this for the most part. I am hoping for a G0, but I doubt I will be dissapointed with a B3. My goal is 3.2Ghz in the first place, both of them are able to handle that 95% of the time from what I have read. So, you could get a G0, and also a B3 and still be unlucky and have a DoA or a chip that simply sucks due to one good E6600 and one bad E6600 joined together.

Check out Clubit.com

They seem to have guaranteed G0 stepping retail CPUs. I checked their resellerratings (all good) and I've seen their name thrown around, so I decided to buy a G0 Q6600.

Just be warned, FedEx ground is slow if you're nowhere near west coast...it looks like it'll take the full 5 working days to get to me. I wish I would have chosen a faster option, as my Newegg mobo + RAM arrived today ><

Still, it was a fair price and a guaranteed G0...can't beat that.

I think it's worth it to try and get a G0. Buy from somewhere else if you have to. ClubIT and Tankguys are the two that I know of that guarantee a G0. G0's are rated 11C higher than B3's and use 15 less watts when OC'd. So you wouldn't want to go over 65C with a B3, but a G0 can operate at 75C under full load just fine.

I don't understand how B3's can do 3.2 and stay under 65C personally. Mine G0 hits 65C when doing small FFT's at 3.2. Unless B3's naturally run cooler they will have a shorter life at that OC. Maybe someone with a B3 can say what their B3's run at while doing small FFT's.

speaking from personal experience with both, B3's are very hard to even get 3.2. My one G0 hit 3.6 stable (except F@H EEU's) and I think its stable now@3.4. My temps are WAY lower also (51c@3.4 vs 69c@3.2) However I do also have a lapped 120 Extreme on the G0. I am still sure they run cooler, on less vcore and OC 200-300 better.

Edit: When I got my G0 from clubit last week, it was $270 shipped, and newegg was $280 and got G0 guaranteed.

lol, y'all B3 owners fret too much

I got mine from Stalliontek (they had it for under $260 shipped and I was penny-pinching) and turns out the one they sent me was an engineering sample with B0 stepping...
I'm happy with it anyways

I ordered mine from memorylabs.com. They stated it on their webpage it was G0. The price was lower than clubit too. $269, I think. I haven't had time to get it up and running yet.

You're basically guaranteed. I've been reading G0 reviews on newegg for more than a month, from both warehouses. and when you do find a B3 review, it's usually because they've owned it for a long time but just got around to reviewing it.

The egg still has B3s in the Cali warehouse.

I ordered a Q6600 on the 22nd. It shipped from their CA warehouse and it was a B3. I returned it. I need the G0 since I'm going to be using it in my Shuttle.

Right now it sounds like a lottery with Newegg. The reviews on their website for the past month and a half have been up-and-down reports of B3s and G0s.

As someone said, Clubit has the G0 guaranteed in stock and their price is pretty much the same as Newegg's. What I'm also interested in is whether or not ZipZoomFly is also shipping out only G0s. I've heard of people getting G0s from them, but it could be the same lottery deal with Newegg. ZipZoomFly, however, does have the lowest price for a retail box that I've seen so far.

G0 is newer stepping and has some of the circuits redesigned and thats why it is more energy efficient and runs cooler.

What exactly are the differences b/w the Q6600 and the X3220? Will the Xeon work on any board that supports the Q6600?

I'm not in a rush so I think I'm going to get the guaranteed G0 from ClubIT. I just ordered some OCZ ram from them from the Hot Deals and it came in about a week.

Thanks for the replies.

Ordered 9-21, received 9-27 B3 stepping from Memphes.

Not bothered by it at all. Would I opt for a G0 over a B3? Of course, but since they are both stellar, I am not really upset one bit.
