IT Intern position

I am looking at an IT internship at a nearby company. They want the person to already know HTML, Visual Basic, and Cold Fusion. HTML I can understand, but how many apps at a corporate level are written in VB? Also, from what I have seen and heard, CF is not used very widely at all?

if they say you should know it, you're gonna have to at least have a basic understanding; even if it's just for the interview. learning never hurt anyone.

True, I have no problem learning either. I did take an intro course on VB early in HS, but that was many years ago (it seems). So I know HTML well enough for day to day tasks, a good understanding of PHP, some understanding of MySQL, but CF? Who uses that?

VB is common for applications in a corporate enviornment. Atleast I think it is. Maybe someone back in 1998 sold them onto the idea of how good VB is and why they should use it. Now they are stuck with lots of corporate apps built on that. Same with CF.

There's good money to be made in changing over applications written in VB to C# in the corporate environment.

I think VB is pretty common for simple business applications. CF, however, as far as I know, is pretty powerful.

I recommend you march into that interview confidently and state that you don't need to know the required skillset mentioned in the job specification.

That'll go over real well. They might even promote you to management.

Why would anandtech use cold fusion? Isn't that something they're working on for power plants? What does anandtech have to do with power distribution systems?
