20K is nothing, that mean people could die in a flood and no one would notice in china.
It starts small (percentile), and I'm sure this is not the first time it happens, but it is happening more frequently. Just a matter of time before the dam breaks.

Then what will happen? With no government and no unified military, the entire country will sink back into it's old pattern of warring clans. At least until someone comes along and takes everything over.

Strange isn't it? When a drug out user gets his ass beaten because of his failure to comply with police orders (Rodney King), everyone in the US cares. When 100's if not thousands of people riot in China, nobody in China cares...

Yea, the Chinese government has to be careful...

wouldn't like 20,000 people amongst the entire population of China be equivalent to like a dozen americans protesting? 😛

Try 4500. USA ~300 million China ~1.3 Billion.

USA is the 3rd most populous country in the world.

Only 20,000 people rioted? Please. When it gets to six digits it's time to worry. And what do you mean "when do WE have acrack at this?" Are you kidding? America, for all of it's faults, is a great country.

20,000? Haha. Unless 2million or more start to riot, I dont think the govt has to worry.

heeh, yeah, 20000 is just a "handfull" of protesters in the govt's eyes. 😛

Yup... 20000 out of 1.3 billion comes in at only .001% of China's population.

I don't remember the name of the person that wrote it, I will have to track down their article again, but the author said there was something along the lines of 86,000 riots in China last year. I don't recall that they defined what constituted a riot for the purpose of their article, though.

I'm not arguing the fact that this IS a great country, but it's on the decline and it could have been greater. Let's not compare or subject ourselves to lesser standards yeah? Afterall, it's the high standards that made us great in the first place.

This is not a political thread, I refuse to go into the details. We can move this over to P&N if you wish. Let's just say that everything is neither rosey nor peachy.

Can we stop the respective downward and upward social comparisons please? It's just a defense mechanism of a damaged ego.

China is in for a world of hurt in about half a century. sure, its been nice for their people to all have jobs making $4 a day because their cheesedogs only cost 23 cents a pop. the very technology they make is now infiltrating their society, and their cost of living is skyrocketing, much much MUCH faster then the united states. you think its been epidemic that 100million or so americans are in deep credit card debt, whats going to happen to china when they multiply that by a billion?! they made the mistake of making stuff too cheap, they will pay the consequences. this is a world market now, countries dont operate independently beside a couple (f.u. n. korea)
