It has been 100 days...

since I smoked my last cigarette.

The first two weeks were absolute hell. I was angry, irritable, and just plain nasty to be around. After that, the cravings died down quite a bit, and it was much easier to ignore them.

I smoked a pack a day for six years, and I had tried to quit several other times with no success. The straw that broke the proverbial camel's back was the increased monthly premium I had to pay for health insurance through my new employer because of the fact that I smoked. Because of my tobacco use I will have to pay an extra $300 per year for the next 2 years. This, combined with the fact that I would quickly become out of breath after any strenuous activity, finally gave me the motivation I needed to quit.

I quit cold turkey. No gum, no patches, no pills. Perhaps the cravings would have been less severe if I had used the gum or patches, but after wasting so much money on smokes for the last six years, I was determined that my bad habit was not going to cost me any more money.

Since I have quit smoking, I can breath easier. Food tastes better, and I can actually run more than a few blocks without collapsing into a heap on the side of the road. Giving up smoking is one of the smartest things I have ever done, and I don't regret it for a moment.

Hopefully I can stick with this for the rest of my life...

Good job. I hope you last longer than my parents who have started and stopped more times than a car in rush hour traffic.

Congrats on doing it cold turkey. My dad just quit, but after 30 some years of smoking, he needed the help of a pill.

You spent $1000+ on cigarettes a year, and it took a $300 insurance premium increase to get you to quit? 🙂 Congrats either way.

Yeah, pretty stupid, I know. I suppose I just got used to spending that much money on cigarettes, and just figured it into my budget.

With the money I have saved so far I have been able to pick up several things that I couldn't justify buying before, such as new computer parts and computer games. So far nothing but good has come from my decision to quit smoking.

congrads bro.

/me lites up a cigarette

/me looks at people in the forum

Fine!....i'll take my cigarette outside the forum!😀

I smoke about 4-5 cigarettes a day. I don't see an effect on getting tired from doing work, infact smoking seems to give me a little boost and help me relax.
I don't see how people smoke a pack or 2 packs a day. I smoke a cigarette for the effect, but, if you smoke another cigarette soon after smoking one, the second one is just like smoke in your lungs, it doesn't give an effect at all. I smoke periodically throughout the day to relax with the effect of the tobacco.

I know a smoker who smoked at least a pack a day and could still run a 5 minute mile.... the fact that you may be able to run, etc, doesnt mean it isnt affecting you.

Now you can spend all that extra cash on booze!!!!
:wine: + =

Funny you should mention it, but I have actually invested some of the money I saved in a beer brewing kit. Just sampled my first brew the other night, and I must say that it wasn't too bad.
