Sorry to hear the bad news.

Please let me know how far you get towards the top 1000 users, as I for one would like to donate my fleet until your account gets into the top 1000 users, just to show my appreciation for the massive amounts of hard work you put in for the team. I'm proud to be in the same TeAm as people like you!

I'm sorry for the big loss Indy... It really was a very nice herd you were having....
But a few days/weeks ago you posted that you might be able to assimilate more PC's on a different
location?

To bad that we will lose you're awesome production, but I'm very glad that youre still around!! :)
PS, watch out Mini-TeAm! ;)

Thanks everyone for your outpouring of support! :)

It really does mean a lot to me! :D

My boss e-mailed me yesterday, asking me to take it off, as it was really affecting some users' performance. This was even on some faster (PIII/900, 128MB) machines. I admit, I have seen this from time to time myself. The most likely culprit is the Outlook problem that seems to be random in hurting performance on machines. Since I can't know, with certainty, that this will continue to be an issue, I'm just taking it off everything. No need to jeopardize my job - plus, my boss has been very cool to let me do this, so this leaves the door open to try it again later down the road. We'll just have to see...

Thanks again everyone! :D

Indy,

You might want to consider (after a bit of time goes by) placing the GUI CLIENT on those machines. It can be set to only function as a screen saver (at least that is my understanding) with a time delay of 30 minutes or so. That way there will be no SETI running when the computer is being used and therefore no issues. The computer users might like the pretty graphics and have a different outlook (pun) on the project.

There would be no caching but what the heck ... something is better than nothing.

IJ, Sorry to hear of your loss!! :(

I was going to make the same suggestion as, Greg. The GUI screensaver would be a good option! By default it only works when the screensaver kicks in. They might even get a kick out of the graphics! It would cut your production in half (or more), but that is better than loosing all of the work stuff! This might even allow you to reclain the department that got cut a few months back.

beloved patriot luck!

SETI affecting Outlook performance? I use Outlook 2002 everyday and hardly realize any performance hit.

It was nice while it lasted. Make sure you stick around IJ, we treat our 2WU/day members the same as our 200WU/day members, and I will need you to cheer on the Hoosiers with me next year.:)

I know what you mean about non-understanding managers. That's why a lot of my ECCp output is done via the duplexing screen saver. its taken a lot of load off my mind, not worrying about effecting the computers performance when in use. Also, no 100% cpu utilization in the task manager!

I know that feeling Indy, I remember when I lost my fleet of 30 + PIII GHZ over a month ago, but is better to loose a herd and not the job, a least I still have my home fleet, even thought the output is different.

Yes Robor you forgot about me.

Best regards

Hey Indy you should remove it quickly if you haven't already. The sooner the real problem is discovered, you have a better chance of reinstalling it if you show it can be installed and removed as easily as...

POW! --> Installed
POW! --> Removed

WHatchu want? Installed? K...

POW --> Installed

:):)

Hey wait a minute, I thought your machines didn't kick in till after biz hours with the flex-installer-sweetness?

Yeah, that's got me thinking, they only run after hours....i remember the huge thread with sorting out the problem!

Plus your (previous sig) "Master of Nocturnal Farming", which means...only at night!

So i don't think Seti is the problem here! :Q

You need to see if the problem still exists after removing Seti, and if it does, then it's not Seti, plus the fact that they (should) only run at night.

You should check into this IJ! :Q

I'm sorry to hear your loosing your farm Indy.

Maybe when the dust settles you can chane the farm to a pure nocturnal farm or even go with the screensaver version on the boxes although that may be difficult if you have to go machine to machine to do it.

Good luck in whichever direction you end up taking Indy!

Sorry to hear that IJ :( ,but at least you had that awesome production for a while:)
Maybe you'll have it again someday..........

Smokeball
You can cache with the GUI version ,you just need to point it to a SETIQ:)

Assimilator1,

Saying you can cache with the GUI Client by using a SetiQueue is the same as saying, "You can fly as long as you get on a plane." Ha :p

Damn, I go to Miami for a few days and have to come back and hear this news...not good at all.

Like a few other people said, maybe the screensaver or just after hours is an option. Probably don't want to push it with the boss man too much but it might be worth considering.
