For those in IT who work at companies where you may have outside vendors coming in to your business, if they need internet access, do you make them sign an internet or network usage policy?

They sign an all-encompassing one for ISO, Internet, etc.

If they're going to use a workstation provided by you, no. Just give them the "don't surf pr0n, don't download stuff, here's your user-level account, GL HF GG."

If they're bringing in a laptop, throw them on a VLAN set to untrusted and inform them that if you see it plugged into a port that's not red, they're cut off. 😛

For our wireless network, the EULA is basically implied when you sign in and aquire a network address. There are programs out there that basically force the user to comply or they don't get an address.

I'd make them sign on anyways, cover your ass. do what M4H suggests too...that should be sufficient.

they usually bring in their own laptops. my boss created this internet usage policy that he wants everyone who may use the internet here to read and sign. i was just wondering if other companies do this too or not.

they're on a separate wireless network than the rest of the company.

he did it to cover our ass in case one of them would happen to do something "bad" while using our networks.

It's not a big deal to have them sign. If they refuse point them to the fax line and say, "Dial-Up Baybee!"

Make sure they don't bridge them accidentally (plug into a wall jack while on the WiFi) - other than that, if it's 100% separate you just have to worry more about the "don't be surfing pr0n from our company line" side of the AUP.

Our company has a strict policy of company equipment ONLY on our network. There are exceptions for contractors/consultants that need internet access, but they are placed on their own VLAN for internet access and have no access to anything else.

Not sure if they have to sign anything, though.
