It could get late early on Election day.

I think we may have a winner by 11 pm Eastern time.
If Obama wins either Virginia or Florida or North Carolina and holds Pennsylvania I don't see how McCain can win. So as long as Pennsylvania and one of the other states I mentioned are decided early for Obama, we can all get a good nights sleep

However, if Obama loses Pennsylvania he would need two out of three of the states I mentioned, and the odds of him winning two before midnight are pretty slim.

I also think many states have worked on their voting systems and the returns will come in faster than they did in 2000 or 2008.

So, it's either Obama early, or no decision until after midnight.

Obama had strong leads in PA as of yesterday.

it'll be nice this year to be able to pop the cork no matter who wins :)

I feel like it'll be earlier rather than later; if Obama's ground game lives up to the hype and states are trending Obama nationally anyways, we'll be seeing the results on the east coast.

It's going to take Obama-having-sex-with-farm-animals pics for him to lose at this point.

Things definitely look good for Obama right now but a month is still a very long time in politics. Lots of things can happen, particularly in the month directly before a presidential election.

I don't know, that would sew up the chicken-lover vote for him pretty well.

Oh indeed. 1/20/09 will become an international holiday. Radio stations should play "na na na na hey hey goodbye" on loop all day. Waxing salons should offer discounts to "get rid of Bush today!"

My friends and I are having basically a second New Years' party the night before, with a countdown planned and everything. Our long national nightmare will be over!

Look, I can give you an election day spoiler now:

Obama wins.

That's it. I imagine it won't run as late as the last election; it won't be as close. He won't smoke McCain by double digits or anything that crazy, but he'll win.

Better to just loop The Who, "Won't Get Fooled Again". You know, "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss."

The change, it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the foe, that's all
And the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed
'Cause the banners, they all flown in the next war

On the one hand, it'll be a great and historic day to see a black man (with a funny name, even!) inaugurated as President of the United States, a nation in which less than 150 years ago he could've been bought and sold as property. As an American, I'm going to watch and be proud of that moment and how far we've come. But on the other hand, if you think things are going to be fundamentally different, you're kidding yourself.

There is a hint. Do you think they've been fundamentally different with the current president vs the last one? I'd say they have been.

Very true. Also temper current polls with the Bradley Effect + margin of error.

Mayor "I'm not an idiot, I just sound like one" Daley has a set already, that's why he gets to call the shots if BHO wins the Big One.

It's impossible to say what someone else would've done with the historical circumstances presented to W. Yes, he pretty much handled them as badly as they can be handled, but I'm not going to guess what Clinton would've done. He didn't have nearly the challenges W faced.

Obama's not black.

but I think things will be different once not-Bush gets elected. on their worst days, Obama and McCain are both better than GW.

Obama is black by the measure of any average American that you ask. Since blackness is a cultural construct anyway, it is what we say it is, and we say he's it.
