IT Certifications

Thinking of getting MCSE 2003 and CCNA/CCNE certified to enhance my IT career, does anyone have any
recommended method of learning mcse either by books, online training such as smartforce, going to a school like chubbs.

Also, whats with these boot camps that fly you to another city, put you in a hotel for 7-14 days and cram all the info at you at once, do these work or are they just a scam. I can't see how anyone can learn all of the MCSE in a week and retain it all.

I would perfer going to a school of some sort at night but don't know which place is good, i dont want some school that is still teaching NT 4.0 certification either.

What is your background?

If you have the experience and temperment setup a home network and read the books, applying what you learn to the home network.

For CCNA look at Cisco's website they have listings of locals where their Cisco Academy will be.

MCSE, our local university offers courses to prep you for the tests with labs. Last time I looked they ran for about 1 year or more.

i hear CBT Nuggets are good video prep. at least when i was researching for MCSE 2000 track.

does anyone know if they'll be retiring any of the 2000 track exams anytime soon? i have a few exams under my belt but havent had the time to finish to aquire my MCSE.

Just a note, I am A+ N+ MCSE, and CCNA.

Those 'camps' are bullshit. There are many websites called braindumps in which people who have recently taking the certification courses have just posted the questions, multiple choice options, and the correct answer. If you read over them three or four times, and have a relativly good memory, you can pass the certification course without even knowing how to turn on a computer.

So those 'camps' will help you pass, but not the legitimate way. Thats why MCSE, MCSA, CCNA and such are 'very low in value'. People use braindumps, get hired, then the employers find out the person doesn't know sh!t about computers. Real world experience is everything.

Now if you have experience, 3+ years, and are currently employed, and your employer is willing to sponsor you to obtain the certifications, or you know of one that is, then go ahead. Otherwise, don't bother.

Yep, about the only thing these certs are good for is being an HR filter.
