I don't mean this as a put down but as a sheer personal amazement.

I realized some of you spend a LOT of time here. You guys meet & chat through here, talk on the phone even without knowing in person, go to meets, and even plan your job locations around each other.

Your primary friends are made through ATOT and social interactions are done thorugh AIM, phone and seldom in person on the long run.

I am just appalled. You know who you are.

I know it's awesome to 'meet' people who share same hobby, same interests and acknowledge general geekdom. (I am certainly one.)

But it starts to irk me wrong when some of us go a little too far and consider each other 'friends'. I know the american term friend is used very loosely, I'm referring to true bonding of friendship that occur through trials, love and time in person.

Hey now - I have friends outside of this place. Out of a group of 5-6 very close friends, I've met two of them here - the rest don't even own computers - lol :p

People plan job locations around each other? That's kind of wierd.

I don't do any of the above, but I see no problem with it. People meet their future spouses through online services, at least with AT you can see a history of a person and tell what type of person they are by the things they post. Planning jobs around one another is a little weird, but many people here have similar interests, and that's a huge ingredient in meeting friends.

But don't forget, it also comes with a huge drawback just as big if not bigger. You are not interacting with them in person, therefore people you 'meet' online are very one dimensional in terms of what you see.

You do not know and see how the person carries himself in... real life
...with family
...with friends
...talk habit
...and many aspects of inperson cue and behavior that is indecipherable online.

I think I've physically melded with my computer chair. I don't know where the skin ends and the leather begins.

My rag on a stick is also starting to run dry :(

I'm only a platinum member. And I'm a college student. I mainly chat up, nef, quote, :cookie:,,, buy things, and waste time.

I also have a girlfriend, I cycle, I have alot of friends, I go to frat parties, I work occassionally, I go to the movies, I get hit on, ... I like computers and enjoy the company of people around me talking. Since I cannot be in a huge room with 100 people all the time talking, I come here when I have nothing else to do. I am merely a college student that likes computers and chatting it up with other guys and gals like me. No one said we were all hideous, pasty, dorks. I for one will say that the description states the opposite of alot of the guys here.

So am I. We're probably the top 70-80% demographic of this forum.

I didn't say all of us. I said some of us. They're definitely there.

Topic Summary: Seriously, I speculated this is the primary social ground for some of you.

I like TOTALLY AGREE WTF

How do you know this is someone's primary source of social interaction? I post here quite a lot but it's in no way my primary source of social interaction, are you just making assumptions based soley on the fact that some members talk to each other on the phone or meet in real life?
