I'm an ex ISU Division 1 swimmer, the athletic department here cut our program at the end of 2001 because of budget problems- mainly they don't know how to run a budget and decided to spend money they didn't have on the band so that they could send the band to the bowl game. Much of what really happened did not make it to the papers, such as the fact that they spent our yearly budget and then some on the band ($500,000, and our budget was 300K- which included cost for 9 full scholarships)
then after our swim team and the baseball team were cut, our mens basketball coach was given a $350000 bonus!!!!!
our swim team had the highest gpa of an sport on campus (3.25), and we had the most all american athletes
now the head coach is in trouble for partying with college students, and he gets payed $1M dollars per year.
