I figured something like this would happen sooner or later, but perhaps not this soon, considering the phone isn't even available yet. They're trying to hack/fool Touch ID, and have a bit of money to back it. A few thousand $ so far. Oh and some bitcoin.

There's no such thing as impenetrable security. As long as there's a will to hack it, it will get hacked.

The sensor uses advanced capacitive touch to take a high-resolution image from small sections of your fingerprint from the subepidermal layers of your skin.

Meaning, it doesn't read your fingerprints but the blood vessels underneath the skin.

But theoretically, you could reverse engineer the sensor and use THAT to steal someone's fingerprints, create a prosthetic finger using the subepidermal pattern, and it might work to break the security.
