Wow, what a completely pathetic system to test a 750W PSU on ;)

AMD Opteron 150 (2.4Ghz)
DFI Lanparty nF4 Ultra-D (6/23 bios)G.Skill 2x1024 Extreme PC3200
XFX Geforce 7800 GT 256mb PCIE
2x80GB Seagate SATA
2x80GB Maxtor ATA133
Sony CRX320AE/UB

In the unlikely event that this is ever needed it might be worth a look, but only if we get some reviews that will stress it.

All I know, in answer to your PM, is iStar is a designer/builder of server grade & main frame SMPSs. They are not as highly reguarded as Zippy/Emacs, Etasis or Delta from what I've read posted by those who service these type of systems.

I would not hesitate to use one of thier units with an 80mm fan in place. I've seen pics of them open but none of the units using 120 fans. Compromises are made when fitting 120s and if not built for a large fan from the gate...Well, cornors could be cut as well as the sinks.

makes little difference in quality as long as it is made to the exact specs to and including brand of CAPs etc...from the company ordering the PSU......

Yoda, please don't go into this again. You both are beating a dead horse.

And, on that note, companies that actually manufacture their power supplies have more control over tolerances; whereas those who don't may simply select a few at random for tolerance control.

That's not to say the 'the ultimate PSU manufacturer' is bad because they don't make their own PSUs, it is just a general fact that the majority of PSUs not marketed by their OEM are of inferior quality. [Though some OEMs that don't market their own stuff are in fact great. Seventeam would probably be a good example here..]

Yes, most marketing companies don't specify at anywhere near that level of detail - maybe a paint job, sleeving, modular/not, etc. Most marketing companies, PC enclosure companies, etc. don't have anyone on staff that COULD specify at that level. They wouldn't know from the brand of caps - more of a pick one from column A, one from column B kinda deal.

Big marketing companies like Antec can put substantial price pressure on their OEMs such that corners get cut. I'm pretty sure (but can't be certain) that that is what happened to Antec's PSU quality. Because I'm pretty sure that ChannelWell wouldn't purposely make crap. That's my story and I'm still sticking to it. ;)

No Trevor its not a general fact!
Possibly you have been brainwashed??
a general fact?? you have been listening to what others have been saying again.
You would be amazed at how truly wrong you are trevor!!

At no time in the history of PSU manufacturing has that statement been so far from the truth Trevor!!

there are more really fine PSU on the market than ever before that are made by other companies .

Thats the main point...
I would say Trevor that majority of PSU`s not marketed by there own OEM`s are not of inferior quality...
Inferior quality in realation to what? See my point?
Most PSU`s that don`t bear names like OKIA, Generic Inc, ACME PSU`s are of sufficient quality to purchase and to use hell they even have warrantys..

Now don`t get me wrong if your going to use say Zippy/emacs or even PC Power & Cooling as your definition of quality...mind you all 3 listed above have reputations built on quality and reliability and workmanship. Now your talking a different ballgame if your going to expect OKIA and frinds to live up to those standards..

Nuff said!!

You ask me not to beat a dead horse yet this dead horse has not had an autopsy to see who is right or wrong.
Bur hey I had a thought possibly there is truth to what both of us are saying....

Ok..I`m also done with this thread!! Have fun!!
