Issues with Radeon R9 270x performance

I have just installed the new Radeon 270x and the drivers. The game starts out at 60 frames but into a minute of gameplay it drops to 15-25 frames. It is almost unplayable. That is worse than the card I upgraded from which was the gtx 460. I know the 270x can do much better. What do you think could be the issue? Bad drivers, a wattage problem, or something else?
My rig
CPU: Intel i5-4570 4th gen
MSI military mobo
RAM: 8gbs DDR3
GPU: ASUS Radeon R9 270x
PSU: 600w

Mainly every game. I tried playing Battlefield 3 and Dishonored. About the time it has to load a big map or area. Its on medium settings.

270X is on par with a GTX580. You are doing something wrong. Whats your PSU? I would consider reinstall windows, or at least use some tool to clean the old nvidia drivers.

Anytime you upgrade your GPU you MUST reinstall cleanly Windows 7.

More correctly, you need to reinstall Windows if you switch from NVidia to AMD or vice-versa, but it's safer to reinstall for any major hardware change other than RAM.

This is simply not true. I've switched between 15-20 different GPUs (both AMD and Nvidia) on the same Windows installation without any issues. The only thing that's important is to uninstall the drivers for the currently installed card when switching to another one, since there are some services that should not run unless a supported GPU is installed.

Other than that, it's not like the AMD GPU is going to try to use Nvidia drivers and vice-versa.

Bollocks. I am running both AMD and Nvidia side by side. Never re-installed windows just because I changed my Gfx card.

I would however run driver cleaners for both.

Also what PSU are you using? Brand? A lot of times I have seen PSU's being the culprit for bad GPU perfomance.

E.g The Steambox in my sig ran fine with an overclocked 7970Ghz with a 650W PSU but I had issues with the GTX 780 that replaced it. Changed my PSU to another brand with the same Wattage and all was good.

Also check what the following member said as well.
Check temperatures with GPU-Z.
