I have a Radeon 6970 and FirePro V4800 in my computer. The FirePro is for work, the radeon for play. The problem is, when I load Solidworks, it doesn't use the FirePro for rendering, and professional features are disabled.

If i hook up my primary monito physically to the FirePro, then Solidworks will inded, enable professional feature and render on it. Problem is, then i run a game, like starcraft, and it renders on the FirePro now, and i get shit frame rate.

How do i force apps to use certain videocards? thanks guys.

nvidia control panel lets you ovveride per application the settings for physx/sli - i'd suspect you'd do the same with ati control panel. just find the app name (exe) and force override settings

How would that help the current situation, assuming they were nVidia cards?

It wouldnt <.<

If all else fails.... build a pc for work, and one for play?

It seems you know how to get it working without this thread.

If its working, by you swapping the monitor cable from card to card, just do that whenever you want to work/play.

You just have to get used to switching cable back and forth between the cards?

What kind of monitor do you have?

I don't know if this works, but if you have the inputs, you can hook up the monitor to two different video cards. It should show up as two different monitors in windows; set them to mirror each other. Then, when you want to game, switch inputs to the 6970 input; for work, switch to the firepro input.

One thing. 1 system 1 driver package. What drivers are you using? CAD applications performs direct Device checking and if none is found which obviously say its a non fire pro card will disable the professional capabilities.

Ok, so i don't have to switch cables now. It has to do with what windows uses as the primary display, like in the control panel. If i click Use This device as primary monitor on the monitor that is on the FireGL, solidworks uses that video card. If i change my primary to the monitor on the radeon, it uses the radeon. Now here is the thing, this obviously switches my monitors around and is a pain, and also is another thing to do before using the programs or games. is there anyway to just tell the programs to render on specific cards? It doesn't make sense. if i tell windows to use the FirePro as primary, and load solidworks and it renders on the FirePro, i can still drag solid works over to the monitor on the Radeon. WTF? there is no limitation of the video card, obviously since it is now rendering on the FirePro and displaying on a monitor running off the radeon.

I hope i was clear. thanks guys.
