the 716a was the worst drive plextor ever made
thats why they had to go to a rebadged benq for their next drive

No it blinks before it inserts the disk after the disk no light plextor says drive is toast since there is no light I just want to verify before I buy a new one and find out I wated my money.

how old is the drive? plextor RMA service is top notch here in the USA, i bought one from ebay and it was DOA and i emailed them and explained where i bought it and gave the serial number and so forth. within a week i had brand new drive that is still working to this day. all that without a receipt i might add. here is plextor tech support email address

I had an expensive plextor and it's can't read cd's...worked great for a long time too...so they do fail sometimes. Replaced it with a far cheaper plextor..probably one of those rebadged Benq's that were mentioned earlier.

Their latest offering the 760 isn't rebadged, I don't think. IIRC it was made by Plextor themselves.
