Issues with Nvidia drivers 12.41?

A little while I put up a thread saying I was having problems with power management. What happened is that, well, y'know in the Power Management control panel (or Display control panel > Screensaver > Power saving settings, they go to the same place anyway) there's supposed to be a pull-down menu to adjust the monitor shut-off time? Well, I saw a tab for hard drive shut-off, system standby... but no monitor.

Anywho, I nearly destroyed my OS trying to fix this (I made the dumb dumb mistake of installing Windows on top of itself), but a couple of days ago I reinstalled Windows and noticed I could adjust the power settings for my monitor. I'm thinking "KICKASS!!! ...though it sure was a pain in the butt" but as soon as I install my GeForce drivers I find that the monitor pull-down mysteriously disappeared. Crap.

Another thing I found is that while I only have ONE monitor (17 inch plug 'n play) it keeps installing a 2nd monitor titled 'unknown monitor'. I can't keep it from reinstalling the monitor. I have a Geforce2MX card, but this particular one doesn't have a 2nd VGA-out for TwinView.

I've found a work-around solution to this problem (rigged my gamepad to function like a keyboard in the programs I CAN'T have my monitor shut off. Set somethign on top of a button with no function in the program and voila-- the computer thinks you're constantly mashing a button on the keyboard) and I'm willing to quit while I'm ahead, but does anyone else have this problem?

My PC-zox:
Athlon 900
256mb RAM
13.6gb 7200rpm
Geforce2MX
SB Live Value
12x DVD
2x8 burner
Zip 100
Eric Cartman mousepad

I can't really help much, but I did want to say that I have the 1241 drivers loaded (recently) and I still have the monitor shut off setting on my system. Those drivers are "generic" and you will always get what looks like a second monitor, but you shouldn't have to go to any extremes to work with it. I have two monitors in device manager, but only one hooked up. My GeForce 2 MX doesn't have a second monitor hookup either. In Device Manager I have 1)Default Monitor and 2)Plug and Play monitor listed.
It sounds like you need to remove the drivers completely and reinstall them. After you remove your drivers, go into Device Manager and delete the Geforce in Display Adapter, then reboot and reload the drivers. Worth a shot! Another thing you might want to do is go into Safe Mode and see how many monitors and Display Adapters are listed in Device Manager. Could be quite a few and you can delete most there. Do this before reloading drivers. Good luck!

Like I said, since I just got my system running again after a clean Windows reinstall, and I found a near-flawless though peculiar work-around to this problem, I'm not gonna try fixing this particular issue for a while. Thanks for replying!
