Issues with new GTX570

I am getting BSOD a few minutes into my BF3 gaming sessions with the new GTX570 I got (sometimes it just hangs up, but most often it goes to the BSOD). It's an upgrade from a GTX285, where I didnt have that problem.

Temps are ok, so not a heat issue.

I am wondering where to go next. Could an underpowered PSU cause this? It's a 700W 4 year old OCZ and perhaps I went over the treshold with the new card (it's a Gigabite GTX570 OC).

I have that card and experienced the same in other games. Gigabyte fixed the issue with a bios update and never had the problem again.

p.s. the above only applies to rev.1 of the card, rev.2 already has the bios fix.

TBH, I've seen a lot of inconsistencies with the 570 over the net. Although the bios update fixed it for me, others who reported similar issues seemed to resolve it by either lowering the gpu core from 30 to 50mhz (or thereabouts) or raising the vddc by about .05v.

Personally I think Nvidia aggressively raised the gpu core on the 570 simply to compete with the 6970, to raise its profile. Many 570s work just fine and can be OC'd well, but some do not, even ref models at stock clocks. The Gigabyte OC is +50mhz over stock, so make of it what you will.

I'll give that a try and see if that does it. If so, exchange it or just run it at lower than it's 'baseline' value? (which, yes, it's still higher than core, but after all, I did pay for the OC model).

Now, in parallel, could not having enough juice from the PSU cause the type of issues I describe? (wondering if I should just order a new PSU anyway since I've been wanting to get a more quiet/silent PSU regardless - not sure how much PSU I should shoot for).

some of the gtx570 cards do not have enough voltage. use gpu-z to see what your voltage id under load.
