Specs:
Opteron 2 x 244
Tyan S2875ANRF, Tiger K8W
2x Hitachi 160GB
2x 512Mb RAM, Corsair 3200 REG ECC (2x512 more coming)
DVDRW, CDRW/DVD, 9600SE

So, I installed Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition and it went ok, though it told me it may not be supported on my system... Microsoft supposedly doesnt approve of Tyan, I checked the website. After installation, it seemed to be running slowly, but I figured if I updated drivers and all that it would fix itself. It hasn't. I have updated everything I could think of and it still locks up a lot. I can almost always get it back, but it will slow down a lot, even when basically idle. Eg, I'll just have a single firefox (or any other program) window open and it will lock for about a minute and then come back. Anyone have any thoughts as to why this happens? I figured it may be a RAM issue, since I have 2 CPU's, but it shouldn't be that much of an issue with just one non-background window open, should it? The task manager seems to say my RAM consumption is quite low.

I then decided maybe I should just install XP Pro sp2 and run that. So, I installed it on the other HDD. Everything loaded, much faster than on the other HDD, for some reason unknown to me, and as soon as it was about to log on, it crashed and restarted. Did this 3 times before I decided I will install it on the original HDD. I had a 30 GB partition for the server windows, so I just created another partition and installed XP on the same HDD as 2003. It went through everything, and then crashed at the same point, basically, 2 seconds after the XP Pro screen came up. Anyone have any thoughts?

I am going to try and install just the original XP Pro, because I know my PC at home will only take SP1 and crashes when I install SP2. Anyone have any other ideas? Like, why 2003 runs so slowly. Any help would be much appreciated.
