Interesting, the host of those images is sending a HTTP/999 status code, which is not a valid HTTP response. The reason for this is probably that the server doesn't allow images to be hotlinked and the server administrator has implemented some kind of really crappy HTTP server. Bottom line, it's not Anandtech's fault and it's not something they can fix. Try putting the images on another host and it should work fine.

Also as a side note, .gif is not an optimal format for those kinds of images. Might pay to encode them as .jpg files.

That host is running IIS, no idea what they could be doing to screw that up.
