Issues with Asus WL-520GU

Bought this router since it is recommended so much here. I have ended up disappointed. Looks like it "works" out of the box, but as soon as any setting is changed on the thing it loses its ability to get an IP dynamically on the WAN port. The only way I've been able to get it "working" is by doing a reset on it which clears out everything.

Is this thing really a POS or am I doing something wrong?

yes, the firmware is garbage. Changing anything is a huge PITA. The big appeal comes from the ability to load dd-wrt or tomato firmware on it, and strong wireless. If you will be changing settings often, might be worthwhile to change the firmware first. disclaimer: haven't done so myself yet.
