hi,

i am aware that i am only ***speculating****..BUT....read this:

Many people see that their HSF screws are too loose and therefore they have freezes and crashes

This is from the same thread i posted something yesterday about stuttering/frezing issues with the 6800.

I am reading that MANY (!?) people obviously received their cards and see that the tightening screws for the HSF need ANOTHER two turns for tightening.

The cooler is too lose and doesnt makegood contact with the GPU.....also, all people who reported that issue and tightened their screws reported that the random freezes etc. are GONE

SPECULATION:

Manufactor's error, wrong specs....cards come with 'loose screws'.
Cards have to be recalled and fixed.
Reason for non availibility

my $0.2 !

if the hsf on the 6800 is made like other video cards, then loose screws wont cause the hsf to have a loose contact with the gpu. all video cards (to my knowledge) use a thermal epoxy (instead of just plain thermal compound) which adheres the hsf to the gpu. the screws are there to prevent the hsf from breaking off the gpu with its weight.
