Hi all,

I have an old system with supermicro p6dge motherboard w/ dual pentium II 400 Mhz CPUS. I am considering upgrading to dual Pentium IIIs, though I know these are difficult to come by these days and have not figured out what speed to get as of yet.

It's been a while since I've been scoping out hardware, can I get 'any' two Pentium III slot CPUS to do the upgrade? I seem to recall (I don't know if it was true or not) that for dual machines the two CPUS must be consecutive in manufacture or something like that... any truth in that or am is it just a urban myth?

My thinking is that any two Pentium IIIs of the same speed & bus speed (my motherboard documentation says the max is P3 550Mhz, 100Mhz bus is supported - I think a BIOS flash may support higher speeds) will do the trick. Is this right?

Any help would be much appreciated, thank you,
Frank
