Issues reading an SD HC card

Got a 16GB card with pictures from a friend that needs some TLC. Tried two readers but neither will access the card, Win7 freezes when trying to access the card and Image Rescue 3 does not recognize it as a memory card. After a while, the menu pops up but the card is inaccessible. Tried using a camera to format it too, at the very least I figure a new FAT could be created and I could use Image Rescue 3 to retrieve all the pictures, but the camera could not read or format the card either. Any ideas of how to get around this?

I have had a couple of memory cards do that - no fix. Sometimes they just become mort.

That's a bummer. They took it to a PC shop before sending it to me and were told it would be $400 to recover photos so I wonder what the shop was planning on doing?

They probably will send it off to a real data recovery place. If it's worth it you could try to sent it yourself and charge your friend the extra. 🙂

That Piriform freeware is worth a shot. They are the folks that make CCleaner - a really good utility.
