no cd-rom, no problem, right? so i've been following the instructions here to boot from a flash drive. everything works fine, except the ethernet isn't detected at all. the instructions say to use kernel 2.6.25 or greater (i'm using 2.6.26 on the installation files). so now i have a completely minimal installation. anyone try this and successfully have the ethernet work?

turns out the ethernet driver isn't in the main linux source and has to be downloaded and compiled separately.

hmmm... so i installed ubuntu 9.04. ethernet and wireless didn't work at first. actually, ethernet still doesn't work. but wireless does, and that's good enough for me. anyway, the ethernet controller is stated as attansic technology corp. chip, but as far as i know it's still made by atheros.

If Attansic changed the PCI IDs for the card the Atheros driver wouldn't claim it until it's updated to include those PCI IDs.
