Okay, this is a trick post. It is actually a poll. I just wanted to see who would read a post that had the ambiguous phrase "our counrty" in it.

What country are you from? The order is only semi-alphabetical.

thanks

Always interrested in foreign politics (and "stuff") especially one that plays a major factor in the world we live in (i'm the first "Netherlands" vote).

In general, Americans only leave their country for pleasure. Most of can't name the PM of Canada. I think this is the reason most Americans have little knowledge and interest regarding foreign countries.

Even I can't name the PM of Canada. On the other hand I can give the name and location of every country in the world with the exception of Andorra, Nauru, Palau, and Tuvalu.

Most americans don't even know the capital of Canada. Most will say Toronto or Quebec lol.

Bah, Andorra is easy. It's that tiny arse country between France and Spain. Now getting all of the -stans right is a bitch.

Sadly, I got the Canadian PM wrong on my first guess. I'm still stuck in the Chrétien days.

I know where the islands are, I had to make an outline map of them for one of my geek projects, then a volcano erupted and made my outline obsolete. :(

But you think the average Canadian knows just as much as you, or a lot more than the average American?

Yes I do. I believe if you were to go up to any Canadian or any European person they would know quite a bit more about foreign countries than Americans would. Reminds me of that video of the British guy doing a survey of Americans and asking them where North Korea was. All of those surveyed put it at Australia for crying out loud. How do you get to that level?

My wife is from Albania (thus my screen name) and she has family that she visits in Canada. It is well known at my work that I have taken a couple vacations to Canada with my wife.

(Where is he going with this you are thinking)

One of my coworkers was talking about hocky one day and I told him that I knew nothing abuot hocky.

"How can you know nothing about hocky when your wife is from Canada?" he asked me.

"My wife isn't from Canada," I replied.

"Then where is Albania?"

The sad part is that this is a true story and his wife is also a foreigner (from Okinawa).

One could do the very same thing on the streets of a British (insert country here) town. There are ignorant people in every society/country. Yours is no different.

Hehe.

As a Canadian I'll say I don't know where a lot of countries are either, specifically the ones mentioned by the OP. Most I can point out in a general sense though, if not specifically. My brother and I had to explain to my sister that the Earth was not flat(true story) when she was in her 20's! :D She explained to us that she just assumed it was. I was shocked and confused by this, but she is blond. She's now 35ish and 6 months from graduating University and should be Teaching next January! :D

Stupidity exists everywhere, but the good news is that people learn and get beyond it. Usually.

I'm the 2.08% from Switzerland ;) Actually I expected to read what people from the US or Canada think about their respective countries' issues.

I try to keep up to with what happens in the world and to get some background infos, too. Crisis and negative news are in the media's focus, though.

Switzerland faces some mid- and long term challenges but I'd have to reflect to name the, say, five most important issues.

If you can name them then you should be able to type them. I see lots of missing nations in your list:D

Technically i was born at Pine Ridge, which isn't exactly but still part of the US. I didn't need any papers or anything when my Dad moved us to Iowa when I was still young.

I'm pretty sure that guy was Australian. That's why he was coaxing all the Americans to stick the attack-next-pin in Australia.

We all have our strengths and weaknesses.
