Issue with windows 10 update

Hi Guys,

I am having trouble updating windows 10 to the anniversary update. I have used the check for updates in Windows but it says " windows is up to date". I have also used the Windows 10 assistant update and it comes up with " i am using 105603 or something like that and that the newer version is 14393. When it goes through the process of downloading the update, my computer would update but during the install and update, at around 78% my computer would restart and restore itself to the previous version of windows.

I have a legit copy of Windows 10 during the free upgrade and I have been using Windows 10 for almost a year already. Is anyone having this issue or just having issues getting the Big update and getting it to update? I bought Gears of War 4 and now I cant even play the game on my pc as windows needs me to have the Anniversary Update installed.

Thank you for your help.

uninstall your antivirus, and upgrade your video drivers. That's what I had to do to update a Gateway 20" AIO PC, from Windows 8 to 8.1. (Amazon reviews were filled with people that attempted the update, and it failed. I pro-actively did those things, and I had no issues.)

Have you tried using the media creation tool? I had a clean install of 1511 on my laptop and it refused to update using the media creation tool unless I allowed it to perform a clean install wiping out all of my freshly installed software that I'd just finished restoring. When I used the Microsoft upgrade assistant it allowed everything to transfer correctly and updated me to 1607. I've successfully used this upgrade assistant on all 7 pc's here at the house.

If you've got corrupt system files you might have to fix them first by running the system file checker.

After trying the media creation tool and assistant and still couldn't get it to work. I went ahead and just did a clean install again using the latest windows ISO. I hope that I don't have to do this every single time when a big update comes

Don't be suprised if you have to do it again at some point, but they are slowly getting a little bit better. That said, Windows Update on Windows 10 is complete trash. On some installations it just doesn't work well, or it works and causes other problems that you didn't have before.
