issue with spdif on MB

picked up an asus M2V-MX. Tried running the audio out of the spdif and nothing.

In windows, i enabled it and saw the "VU meter" moving but no audio. I wonder if I have the pins from the MB to the cable hooked up wrong.

thoughts?

PS I gotta get this working to take advantage of the blu ray rom I just bought..
