A while back, my GTX 280 stopped working properly. Sometimes it would fail to boot, and other times when playing a game the screen would turn a solid color and stay that way until the computer was restarted. Since then, I've been using a 4770 that I had lying around. It's a decent card, but I needed something faster, so I bought a 6950.
I got the 6950 installed alright, and aside from some issues getting the drivers installed, it worked fine. I ran FurMark for a while on it to see what the load temperatures might be like (~75 degrees celsius after about 30 minutes I believe).
I went to play Crysis after this. Crysis ran for about 20 seconds before the computer completely hardlocked and I was forced to restart. Since then, the computer has sometimes failed to boot, and has hardlocked and/or restarted in Windows and when trying to play a game.
I've switched back to the 4770 and didn't have any problems. I borrowed my brother's 4850 and have been using that, which hasn't resulted in any problems either.
I gave the 6950 to my brother to test in his comptuer. He's used it for about a day now, doing a decent amount of gaming, and has had no issues.
I'm wondering if neither my GTX 280 nor the 6950 are the problem. Unfortunately, I don't have the GTX 280 on me right now to test in another system. I'm wondering if maybe it's the motherboard or PSU that's actually at fault.
My system is as follows:
i7 920
Asus P6T Deluxe
750W PC P&C
6 GB RAM
3 HDDs (640GB, 1TB, 2TB)
Any ideas?
