Issue with Netscape 6.0

Hi,
I have just downloaded Netscape 6.0. I keep
getting this message every 1 minute or so when
I view the forums:
Alert:
The connection was refused when attempting to contact
forums.anandtech.com

I can view the forums alright, it is just annoying
that I have to click close window every 1 minute
for that message.

Russ is right 🙂

Netscape is pretty much dead right now, as they aren't going to make any new browsers, so now more than ever, sites wont be optimised for netscape...

🙂
I was actually running IE 5.5.

One problem I have with IE 5.5 is everytime I try opening secure sites
like hotmail or any shopping sites......it will ask me to download
a newer version of IE or Netscape.
I think it is complaining about UNKNOWN encription or something like
that....
That is why I downloaded Netscape 6.0.
It solved the above problem, but then I now have a problem with
anandtech.

I'm running IE 5.50, I don't get asked to download a newer version all the time, so I'm not sure why you are. The only thing I've run in to is on ebay it keeps asking if I want to download some kind of PIX ActiveX thing or whatever.

Zuni, you are RIGHT!

When I set netscape not to show any images at all,
the problem disappear.
However, I don't think I want to run netscape
without image at all, maybe I should download
IE 5.01.

Thanks 🙂

Netscape 4.77 doesn't encounter the error. But sciencewhiz is right, mozilla 0.9.1 is out and it's quite good. I use it far more often than IE now.

I like 0.9.1, but not as much as Opera. Mozilla isn't as fast as IE (kinda an unfair comparison, I know, but it's true).

Just as an example:

Opening the front page of ArsTechnica:

Mozilla................21Mb:
IE 5.5.................15Mb:
Opera 5 (w/java).8.5Mb:

If it weren't for the fact that sometimes Opera has issues with these forums, I'd use it exclusively.

BurntKooshie,

"fast" is a bit vague. Mozilla is definetly a memory hog (thought that has slowly been getting better) but mozilla renders pages faster (the nightlies have been great) and is more standards compliant (despite what /. authors might say).

regardless, Netscape 6 should have never been released. Netscape really screwed up on that one.

My usage consists of opening many new links in many new windows, and loading new windows (and indeed, loading mozilla itself) takes longer in mozilla than in IE. It all depends on usage patters. The fact is that IE has the fewest problems with these forums, and so, that's what I tend to use when coming here.
