Hi! Old member on new account here since I apparently lost my PSW.

I am trying to fix this NUC for a friend. He bought it new a good while ago and never really got it working properly. The problem today is the same as from the start. Installing windows is a hassle. Install freezes at certain points. Sometimes when making a partition or formatting the SSD and sometimes during file copy. I tried with different SSDs and strangely it seems to hang at different points with different units. With one it completes the installation but gives a boot disk failiure message on first reboot. Apparently my friend tried a zillion times and managed to make it work but had stability issues inside windows.

I heard these nucs had some issues with the earliest bioses so I updated to the latest one but that fixed nothing. It actually freezes inside bios as well, or uefi or whatever it's called these days.

The system is as follows:

Intel NUC 4250U - The one with room for 2,5" SSD
8 Gig crucial ram. Has the correct voltage, 1 sodimm. "CT102464BF160B.C16FND"
Corsair force 240GB SSD - this one completes install.
Samsung 850 EVO 120GB - install hangs at file copy, friend managed to install.
Seagate 80GB HD - install hangs at similar but not same spot as the Samsung drive.
Windows 10 Home 64 bit.

I tried installing from two different USB-sticks.

Temps seem ok. Around 47 c for the cpu.

I really would love to fix this somehow for my friend since I am the one who recommended this setup for an HTPC for him, but it does look like some kind of hardware error, doesn't it?

Any and all input/insight would be helpful!

Thank you.

ps. Let me know if more info is required.

Update 1: Ran http://www.memtest86.com/ overnight with no errors.

Make sure that the memory is the correct Low Voltage memory and is on the certified memory list. NUC's are very picky when it comes to memory.

I think your issue is with the Memory Module Density problem.
I did not see your memory module listed on the approved list.
The memory must be 1.35 V DDR3L.

This is for another model NUC but I think it still applies.

I think you need this instead: CT102464BF160BJ

note the J at the end.

Hi there! it does say 1.35v on teh sticker. And you are correct that the module isn't identical. WOuldn't memtest complain if something is wrong with it though?
