issue with gmail?

For some reason today I went to check my gmail acct and I'm being asked to dl a file called "gmail" of some unknown type. I don't think this has ever happened before... I'm using one of the latest versions of IE as I am at work. Anyone know what's up? I can't seem to check my mail 🙁

weird - seems that if i dl the file and just not open it that gmail will then work. I followed this up by deleting the file in question. I'm confused....
