issue with bricked evga 970?

I tried doing a flash of my brand new evga 970 SC. Reports of fan noise had me just do it "just because". There were no issues during the process and the instructions were literally 5 steps (http://forums.evga.com/EVGA-GTX-970-ACX-Firmware-Update-v11-m2228516.aspx), couldn't go wrong. I spoke with an EVGA tech and they explained I should just return it to newegg or they would RMA it.

Right now it won't boot up on its own. It gives a blank screen and the mobo won't post. I am running on IGP and the card is plugged into one of my PCI-e slots.

gpu-z "recognizes" the card being there and so does the windows device manager.

however, i can't get nvflash to recognize it so I can re-flash to default bios.

anyone have any ideas? maybe i'm doing something wrong with nvflash? I've booted it in DOS and run the WIN application using nvflash--list and both show no display adapter.

Can i use another application or force the flashing in some way?

i did try that, and it didn't work =/

quick update, for whatever reason, I now have nvflash recognizing the card, however when I flash it, I still get the same issue with the non-POSTing.

Did you try using the other video ports? From what I've read (could be wrong), this card may have dual bios.
Some bios upgrades require the removal of drivers on that PC. Good luck.

Unfortunately, I think GPU-Z's "recognition" doesn't indicate that your card is "there." I read somewhere that GPU-Z pulls the info from registry in Windows, not directly from hardware itself.

Your best bet may be just to RMA it and make sure you proof yourself for any problems that may result from this flash gone awry.

Search for Maxwell bios mod. Maybe using that approach before you rma it will fix it.

You did make sure bios version was the correct one I'm assuming.

If you can see it in device manager maybe try right click > disable and then try the evga way again?

Flashed my 970 many times without issue.

Uhm..try with the latest NVFlash

I mean you say it sees the card...try flashing again with the original bios.

Here for SC ACX2.0 -2974 cards:

http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/162877/EVGA.GTX970.4096.140925.rom

from:

And check the exact syntax how to flash the card in whatever slot it is in. I am almost sure you should be able to revive it. I don't know how often I flashed my card already (200x or so? 🙂 ) - I can't see a reason why flashing itself would brick the card. You probably flashed some "weird" bios or wrong bios?

Since you have a -2974 like I have, check my thread at:

http://forums.evga.com/Solution-For-Black-Screen-Problem-For-GTX-970-SC-ACX20-2974-m2332911.aspx

Flash BIOS #3, I mean if you're already flashing you can as well flash my "enhanced" and moderately OC bios. Let me know how it goes.

This is why I don't do BIOS flashes...too afraid to brick cards. I will however tear the card completely apart, make my own custom cooling for VRM and VRAM, and watercool with a universal block, making my own mount if I have to. 😉

Try to use software tools to overclock/overvolt/change fan/etc. Much safer than BIOS mods IMO.

I am very confident he can revive the card, he has a IGPU working, his card is recognized etc. I cant see a reason why he shouldn't be able to flash the correct bios on the card.
