Greetings Gents:

Problem:

I am having trouble getting BF2 to work on my dual core system. When i launch the game, the screen turns black for a couple of minutes, they the intro video comes on and freezes immediately. My computer locks up, and I am forced to reboot it.

Things I've tried:

I have tried all the recommended fixes, such as the AMD x2 driver, MS hot fix, launching program with affinity set to one, and updating my video card drivers.
I have also tried down clocking my CPU to stock settings. I've also tried running the Demo and updating BF2.

Whats not causing the problem:

If you checkout my hardware in my sig, I have pretty old video card. I know its not the problem because I played BF2 with it on my old single core setup. Furthermore, i am using win XP SP2.

What might be causing the problem:

Obviously, i think my problem might have something to do with dual core. It might also have something to do with the ram I am using, if thats even possible. i say this becuse on my old single core machine when i installed 1.5gb of ram i would have similar issues.

Problem is, even with 1gb of ram on my dual core machine it still does not work. I also think the fact that i am using a ULI chipset might have something to do with it because my old single core system used a Nvidia chipset(no worries, i did a fresh install when i changed systems)

I'm really not sure whats causing these issues, and i woudl really appreciate some help.

Thanks

hmmm. I just installed and played BF2 and special forces on my rig with a 4800+ x2 and no problems. Did your motherboard initially support dual core or did you have to apply a bios update?

Also you might try and take out the 512 crucial Ram and see how that goes.

It might also have to do with your OC and memory timings but thats something I dont know a whole lot about.

Anything that locks your system up is usually due to a memory/memory setting issue.

Well I would run memtest to see if you have any ram issues. Using 3 sticks will force you to 2T timings and single channel and you might need to downclock the mem as well. My first guess is it's at least partialy memory related. Do any other games have issues?

I solved my issue by going into Task Manager, Processes tab, right click on BF2, go to Set Affinity, uncheck CPU 1 and press ok. You will have to do this every time you launch BF2. It is the only way I found to work BF2 without being disconnected.
