So I wanted to clone my 40Gb HD to an 80Gb HD I got. No raid or anything special. Both disks use IDE. The 40Gb is 5400rpm and like a samsung or something while the 80Gb is 7200rpm and a maxtor. I used the disk cloning and it copied everything correctly to the other hard drive. Then all I did was replace the old hard drive with the new one. All the files were intact, the system was identical file-wise.

However, now I run in to some lag issues. Occasionally my computer starts stuttering and the mouse starts lagging. I think this happens when programs start accessing the hard drive. For instance, I use Azureus when I do a recheck on a download it starts really lagging. This also happens when I'm using GrabIt. The CPU usage sky rockets.

Should I do a repair with a windows cd or something? I think I've tried reinstalling the chipset drivers. Anyone have any suggestions?

I looked at system in the event viewer and for today, it shows a lot of information, but only one warning. the source name is called "Tcpip".

"TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp."

It also says that. But i can't find anything that has to do with the disk.

Well the tcpip warning is from a session when you were using Azureus.

As for the image, did you defrag the drive before you cloned it? Also, verify you did reinstall the chipset drivers

No I haven't defragmented it. Thanks for that. I'm getting diskeeper right now. I'll do another reinstallation of the drivers afterwards.

Sorry for not responding for a while. I've tried Diskeeper, O&O, and System Mechanic (defrag and other optimizations). It still happens. It doesn't occur unless I do something like extract files with Winrar or decode downloaded files with GrabIt (binary newsgroup client). This is pretty much all I use my computer for.

I didn't uninstall and reinstall the chipset drivers. I just installed them over. Does it really matter? Is there anything else I should check/do?
