issue with a MS Intellimouse Explorer 3.0

Hey all,
I've been using the Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 for a while now. It fits my hand really well and so far I've loved it. However, today it started giving me some trouble, and it's rather annoying. The mouse will like, randomly turn itself off with a "da-dung" noise and then turn itself back on with a "dung-da" noise. The light on the mouse goes off and everything...and for that time (a few seconds), I can't use the mouse. Also, sometimes it just turns off completely, and I have to unplug/replug the USB connector to get it to come back on.

Does anyone know what could be the matter? I just reinstalled Intellimouse 4.0...but the problem persists. I've also tried switching USB ports, but to no avail.

Thanks,
-Eric

I have the same problem as you every once and a while. I simply unplug and then plug it back into a different usb port. Also are you using a hub? If not try one. I have heard that some USB devices have problems on some computers with Hyperthreading, and to fix the problem use a USB hub. Dunno what to tell you really, if you are still having problems there is a thread in the Hot Deals forum about how to get your Micro$oft mouse replaced for free.

edit - Just looked at your profile and you don't have hyperthreading, maybe time to get a replacement.

All right, thanks :)

I think I'll take the mouse to my friend's house first & test it on his computer...I haven't had any problems all day today so maybe yesterday was just an off day...eehhh.

Thanks for your help Chucko

There is a known problem with those mice. There was a recall, but it has been expired for a while. I owned the same mouse, and started having the same problem. Eventually, it just stopped turning on one day, so I trashed it and bought a Logitech! Problem solved. BTW, I have had 3 microsoft peripherals die on me, so now all I use is logitech. Havent had trouble with any, and I own about 5-6 different peripherals.

I thought the problem was with the the orginal explorer and other optical intellimouse products. I thought the 3.0 explorer was excluded from that recall. I myself had two of the original explorer opticals go bad.

I had an intellimouse die on me. I could wiggle the wire (where it went into the mouse) and it would get it working for a bit. My new one doesnt sit in the USB very well, sometimes it falls out. Maybe you have that same problem, maybe not. Try taping it in. I used duct tape, it works fine.
