Issue with 7900 gt's...please advise

I am short in queue to step up to 2 7900gt ko superclocked cards. Totally psyched at first, and then I got on eVGA's forums and looked at a multitude of threads reporting serious issues with the 7900gt cards. Many people are having the same issues and their RMA cards are having serious issues as well.

PLEASE respond to this thread if you have recieved an eVGA 7900gt (namely a 7900gt k0 super*) card that works flawlessly and you think it would be a good purchase. I am looking for a good reason not to take myself out of the queue.

I got the bottom of the line plain jane vanilla 7900 gt.It runs at 450/333.It scored a 4551 in 3dmark06.That is about 45 points higher than my 7800gt overclocked.My highest score was 5246 running at 515/495.It ran 3dmark06 fine at that setting but when playing bf 2 i would get artifacts.So right now I'm running it at 475/433 with no problems.I got the card with the intention of overclocking but it will definately need a better cooler.It idles at 53 and during games it goes up to 70 celcius.I may give overclocking another shot when I get a better cooler and my power supply may be holding me back als😵verall I am happy with the card and happy with the step up program,everything went smoothly for me.

My friend RMAed two 7900GTs, and he is now on his third one.
I had better luck than him because my first replacement card has been working for 2 weeks already.

I've had to RMA 2 7900gts already, and I think the third one is about ready to go back.

It is my understanding that there was a bad SKU but it has been recently corrected...

Furthermore, Evga is only reporting a ~1% rate on RMAs.

2 evga 7800 GT OC's, so far so good. I am keeping them at stock for now (500/1500).

I have a 7900GT currently in the Step Up process right now, so it should be sent back to me by Wednesday. I'm just a bit anxious to see how it does. I don't play FEAR or BF2 and haven't bothered with 3Dmark06, so I may not even notice any problems with it unless I go poking around. I am ordering vid card RAM heatsinks for it anyhow just as a precaution, which won't void the warranty on the card.

Well this thread has not been any better for the 7900gt cards, guess I'll back down a little and wait for dx10 to come out b4 i drop a wad on a good vid card.
