Issue powering up.

Recently I've noticed some issues powering up my Pentium II server box. Whenever I hit the power button, nothing happens. I've checked the hookup on the motherboard, and it all works. If I leave the ATX power connector unhooked for a while, and then reconnect, it will turn on. The motherboard itself is fine, all the fans spin up, and it POSTs. However, doing this repeatadly is quite a pain, and I would like to fix it. Could the switch have gone bad, the PSU seems to be fine.

Does it happen everytime you powerdown and want to come back. It might be something like a head comming loos on the switch leads. So when you pull it out and plug it back in it "corrects" the issue. You can try this to see if it is the switch or board, unhook the PS switch and use a flat head screw driver to close the connection real quick, taking care not to touch the other contact leads. If you experience the same problem, then you know the switch is probably fine, and it is either the psu or the mobo.

I would say it is the PSU. Try another PSU and see if the problem goes away. It's not unusual for old PSU to start doing weird things after so many years of service.

I tried shorting the power switch connector pins with a screwdriver, and it works fine. I guess I'll just have to get a new switch, as taking off the case and shorting the pins each time is rather annoying.
