Issue on Motorola Razr Maxx HD - cannot connect to wireless...ANYWHERE...

I have been struggling with this phone's wireless for sometime now...

First it started at home...where if I had to shut off the wireless on the phone and turn it back on I couldn't get the phone to connect until I would reboot my home wireless router...and then it would magically reconnect DHCP.

I got to the point I tried to assign the phone an IP address and that seemed to help a little bit for sometime but lately it hasn't mattered...

Same goes for anywhere I go with open WiFi (even work)...

I will find networks to connect to but upon connecting it won't grab an ip address...gets stuck in a 'connecting loop' and eventually just disconnects all together.

Looking around online I see other posts with similar issues but I haven't found any resolution.

By chance has anyone had issues similar to this on their phone? If so were you able to resolve the issues?

Thanks for any advice!

Going on 4 months and no issues with mine. I use WiFi at home every day and have connected to various other networks. I would say do a FDR and if that doesn't work send it back for replacement.

Pull sim and put back in?

Restart phone?

Turn in for replacement?

I have restarted the phone multiple times...doesn't seem to make a bit o difference.

How would pulling the SIM card make a difference?

FDR is a factory restore correct?

What happens to the pictures, videos, programs...I have on the phone? Gone?

Download the carbon backup app from the playstore then download the desktop app. You can back up pretty much everything that way. I'd recommend plugging it in and backing up your files via a file browser (windows).

Then call Verizon and get that guy replaced. Sounds faulty. Probably software, but that more than likely won't be addressed for a couple of months.

I ran out to the play store and googled carbon app sync and backup...

Unfortunately it seems to not be viable for a Motorola phone

Note: Carbon is NOT available to Motorola devices. This is because Motorola phones have a bug that break Android's backup mechanism. Until this is fixed by Motorola, Carbon will not work on those Androids. You can download Carbon manually here:
http://download.clockworkmod.com/apks/Backup.apk
If you find that Carbon *does* work on your Motorola Android, please notify me.

Thanks for the info though, I will look around for a backup tool and work on moving things off the device.

I've seen that reconnecting loop on my RAZR HD only with a really bad signal. However, I attribute that to the signal. In that same spot with an iPhone, the iPhone would connect but 50% of the time I couldn't surf anyway because the signal was so poor.

In other spots where signal is good, I never get that reconnection loop.

However, I did notice that when I have the phone on "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" "Only when plugged in", WiFi connection detection was sometimes unreliable. When I got home, the WiFi wouldn't connect. I'd have to force a connect.

I set to "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" "Always" and that works perfectly, every time.

Lately I've had it set in the Smart Actions to automatically turn on when I get home and then off when I'm away from home to save power and it seems to work, but there is often a delay so it doesn't automatically turn on the second I get home. I'll have to test that out some more.

Interesting. I didn't realize that. Sorry about that. :(

If your device is rooted, you can always download Titanium Backup and then proceed to back up ALL of your apps + data and copy that folder over to your desktop so you don't lose anything.
